Description

Target Audience:  Staff members providing adult care to patients and families of the General Medicine and Infectious Disease setting

Purpose:  To identify, discuss, and educate evidence-based research from recent literature relevant to the care of Medicine and Infectious Disease settings.

Educational Objectives:  

  • To encourage staff to further learning of recent nursing research.
  • To enhance awareness and curiosity about pursuing changes in current nursing evidence-based practice related to General Medicine and Infectious Disease setting.
  • To develop one's critical thinking skills and understanding of subject matter related to the General Medicine and Infectious Disease setting.
  • To encourage opportunities in developing new strategies to implement change upon unit to help improve daily care among patients and staff.
  • To motivate better communication and teamwork through group discussions during Journal Club meetings.

Desired outcomes:  To enhance the nurses' ability to stay current with relevant evidence-based research and integrate key care elements into current practice while continuing to improve safe and effective care.

Format:  

Articles will be made available prior to the meeting date. 

Prior reading of the article is fully encouraged before a meeting. 

A full discussion of the article will be done at the time of a meeting. 

Frequency of meetings:  Every odd month (example: Jan, March, May, July, etc.)

Place:  Break room on 4 West at Lee Memorial Hospital

Reading assignments:  Full-text articles will be available in electronic format on IntraLee-Medical Library-Journal Clubs - 4 West LMH Journal Club -Upcoming Meetings OR as printouts in the Journal Club binder in 4 West break room

Available credits:  Lee Memorial Health System is an approved provider of Continuing Nursing Education by the Florida Board of Nursing. This program has applied for 1(one) contact hour.
